Clinically manifested initially by pain, redness and swelling, the
finger is asymmetrical. Pain is initially caused by touching or walking,
then it becomes permanent. When the infection suppurates, in advanced
stages, it develops a fleshy granulation tissue (granuloma).
Untreated properly may be complicated by infection, abscess, granuloma piogenic, erysipelas.
The Treatment is surgical and is performed under local anesthesia by removeing the ingrown portion of nail, including its root, to prevent relapse.
After surgery the patient must sit with his foot raised on a pillow and avoid walking for about a week.
